§ 219-q. Definitions. 1. "Participant" means a participant as defined\nin subdivision six of section two hundred nineteen-c of this chapter,\nsubdivision seven of section two hundred fifteen of this chapter and\nsubdivision eight of section two hundred nineteen-k of this chapter.\nParticipant also includes individuals who served as volunteer\nfirefighters or ambulance workers in the timeframe specified by the\nprogram sponsor, prior to the enactment of the service award program.\n 2. "Supplemental award" means the benefit payable pursuant to a\nsupplemental award program.\n 3. "Supplemental award program" or "program" means a plan established,\nadopted and maintained under this article to provide awards for\nvolunteer firefighters and ambulance workers.\n 4. "Decade of service" means:\n (a) ten calendar years during which a participant accumulates at least\nfifty points in accordance with the service awards program established\npursuant to article eleven-A, eleven-AA or eleven-AAA of this chapter;\nor\n (b) ten calendar years for which the participant can demonstrate, to\nthe satisfaction of the sponsor, that he or she substantially met the\nstandards for active service during those ten years.\n
