§ 372. Definitions. As used in this article, the following terms shall\nhave the meaning ascribed to them, unless the context otherwise\nrequires:\n  1. "Administrator" means the state fire administrator established\npursuant to article six-C of this chapter.\n  2. "Areas of public assembly" means all buildings or portions of\nbuildings used for gathering together fifty or more persons for\namusement, athletic, civic, dining, educational, entertainment,\npatriotic, political, recreational, religious, social, or similar\npurposes, the entire fire area of which they are a part, and the means\nof egress therefrom.\n  3. "Building" means a combination of any materials, whether portable\nor fixed, having a roof, to form a structure affording shelter for\npersons, animals or property. The word "building" shall be construed\nwhen used herein as though followed by the words "or part or parts\nthereof" unless the context clearly requires a different meaning. The\nterm "building" shall also mean "factory manufactured home" and "mobile\nhome". The term "building" shall not include a "temporary greenhouse".\n  4. "Construction" means the construction, reconstruction, alteration,\nconversion, repair, installation of equipment or use of buildings, and\nrequirements or standards relating to or affecting materials used in\nconnection therewith, including provisions for safety and sanitary\nconditions.\n  5. "Council" means the state fire prevention and building code council\ncreated by this article.\n  6. "Department" means the department of state.\n  7. "Equipment" means plumbing, heating, electrical, ventilating, air\nconditioning, refrigerating equipment, elevators, dumb waiters,\nescalators and other mechanical additions or installations.\n  8. "Factory manufactured home" means a structure designed primarily\nfor residential occupancy constructed by a method or system of\nconstruction whereby the structure or its components are wholly or in\nsubstantial part manufactured in manufacturing facilities, intended or\ndesigned for permanent installation, or assembly and permanent\ninstallation, on a building site.\n  9. "Fire area" means the floor area of a story of a building within\nexterior walls, party walls, fire walls, or any combination thereof.\n  10. "Fire protection equipment and systems" means apparatus,\nassemblies, or systems, either portable or fixed, for use to detect,\nprevent, control, or extinguish fire.\n  11. "Local government" means a village, town (outside the area of any\nincorporated village) or city.\n  12. "Means of egress" means a continuous unobstructed way of exit from\nany point in a building or structure to a public way. A means of egress\ncomprises the vertical and horizontal ways of travel and includes\nintervening room spaces, doorways, hallways, corridors, passageways,\nbalconies, ramps, stairs, enclosures, lobbies, escalators, horizontal\nexits, courts, and yards.\n  13. "Mobile home" means a moveable or portable unit designed and\nconstructed to be towed on its own chassis, comprised of frame and\nwheels, connected to utilities, and designed and constructed without a\npermanent foundation for year-round living. A unit may contain parts\nthat may be folded, collapsed or telescoped when being towed and\nexpanded later to provide additional cubic capacity as well as two or\nmore separately towable components designed to be joined into one\nintegral unit capable of being again separated into the components for\nrepeated towing. "Mobile home" shall mean units designed to be used\nexclusively for residential purposes, excluding travel trailers.\n  14. "Office" means the office of fire prevention and control created\npursuant to article six-C of this chapter.\n  15. "Secretary" means the secretary of state.\n  16. "State agency" means any department, bureau, commission, board,\npublic authority or other agency of the state, including any public\nbenefit corporation any member of whose board is appointed by the\ngov
