§ 226. Employment of state police in towns, villages, police\ndistricts.  1. The governing board of any police district provided for\nunder article fourteen-a of the town law or of any town or of any\nvillage, may from time to time respectively contract upon behalf of said\ndistrict, town or village with the superintendent of state police upon\nbehalf of the state for the regular assignment of state police to said\ndistrict, town or village upon the following terms and conditions: The\nsuperintendent of state police shall detail such number of state police\nofficers as shall be agreed upon to such district, town or village for a\nperiod of one year; the pay, maintenance and other expenses of such\ndetail for a period of one year shall be computed by the superintendent\nof state police with the approval of the state comptroller pro rata upon\nthe total cost of the pay, maintenance and similar expenses of the whole\ndepartment; before such contract shall take effect the governing board\nof said district, town or village shall deposit to the credit of the\ndivision of state police in a depository to be designated by the state\ncomptroller with proper sureties, one half the sum of money so computed\nand upon the first day of the sixth month during the continuance of said\ncontract shall likewise deposit the remainder of said sum; the\nsuperintendent of state police, upon audit of the comptroller, shall\ndraw upon said depository for the pay, maintenance and other expenses of\nsaid detail when due; said detail shall have all the powers and duties\nand shall remain at all times under the authority and discipline of the\nsuperintendent of state police as provided for state police assigned to\nregular duty under this article.\n  2. The superintendent of state police is authorized to appoint\ntemporarily to the regular force provided for in this article, troopers,\nnon-commissioned officers and officers to fill the places of those\ndetailed under such agreements. In police districts the money to be\ndeposited as required hereunder shall be provided for as authorized\nunder article fourteen-a of the town law as added in nineteen hundred\nand twenty; in towns and villages the money so deposited shall be raised\nby taxation.\n
