§ 8-416. Ballot drop boxes. 1. For the purposes of this title, the\nfollowing terms shall have the following meanings:\n  (a) "ballot drop box" shall mean a secure receptacle established by a\nboard of elections whereby an absentee ballot or early mail ballot\nmarked by a voter pursuant to section 8-410 or 8-708 of this article may\nbe returned to the board of elections of the county or city of the\nvoter's residence; and\n  (b) "ballot drop-off location" shall mean a location consisting of a\nsecured ballot drop box at which a ballot marked by a voter pursuant to\nsection 8-410 or 8-708 of this article may be returned to the board of\nelections of the county or city of the voter's residence.\n  2. Each board of elections is hereby authorized to establish one or\nmore ballot drop-off locations as an additional means for the delivery\nof absentee or early voting ballots marked by a voter to the board of\nelections of the county or city of the voter's residence. Each such\nboard of elections shall provide notice of the location of every such\nballot drop-off location by posting such information on its website no\nlater than the day the ballot drop-off location is established.\n  3. The state board of elections is hereby authorized and directed to\npromulgate rules and regulations necessary for the implementation of the\nprovisions of this section, including, but not limited to the location,\nchain of custody, pick-up times, proper labeling, and security of ballot\ndrop boxes established by boards of elections pursuant to this section.\n
