§ 17-144. Receiving consideration for franchise. Except as allowed by\nlaw, any person who directly or indirectly, by himself or through any\nother person:\n  1. Receives, agrees or contracts for, before or during an election,\nany money, gift, loan or other valuable consideration, office place or\nemployment for himself or any other person, for voting or agreeing to\nvote, or for coming or agreeing to come to the polls, or for remaining\naway or agreeing to remain away from the polls, or for refraining or\nagreeing to refrain from registering as a voter, or for refraining or\nagreeing to refrain from voting, or for voting or agreeing to vote, or\nfor refraining or agreeing to refrain from voting for or against any\nparticular person or persons at any election, or for or against any\nproposition submitted to voters at such election; or,\n  2. Receives any money or other valuable thing during or after an\nelection on account of himself or any other person having voted or\nrefrained from voting at such an election; or having registered or\nrefrained from registering as a voter, or on account of himself or any\nother person having voted or refrained from voting for or against any\nparticular person at such election, or for or against any proposition\nsubmitted to voters at such election, or on account of himself or any\nother person having come to the polls or remained away from the polls at\nsuch election, or having registered or refrained from registering as a\nvoter, or on account of having induced any other person to vote or\nrefrain from voting for or against any particular person at such\nelection, or for or against any proposition submitted to voters at such\nelection, is guilty of a felony.\n
