§ 921. Training of unlicensed school personnel to administer certain\nmedications. 1. (a) The board of education or trustees of each school\ndistrict and board of cooperative educational services and nonpublic\nschools are authorized, but not obligated to have licensed registered\nprofessional nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and\nphysicians train unlicensed school personnel to administer prescribed\nglucagon or epinephrine devices in emergency situations, where an\nappropriately licensed health professional is not available, to pupils\nwho have the written permission of a physician or other duly authorized\nhealth care provider for the administration of glucagon or an emergency\nepinephrine device, along with written parental consent, during the\nschool day on school property and at any school function as such terms\nare defined, respectively, by subdivisions one and two of section eleven\nof this chapter. Training must be provided by a physician or other duly\nauthorized licensed health care professional in a competent manner and\nmust be completed in a form and manner prescribed by the commissioner in\nregulation.\n (b) For the purposes of this subdivision, the term "epinephrine\ndevice" shall have the same meaning as set forth in paragraph (b) of\nsubdivision one of section three thousand-c of the public health law.\n 2. A school district, board of cooperative educational services,\nnonpublic schools and/or their agents or employees shall incur no legal\nor financial liability as a result of any harm or injury sustained by a\npupil or other person caused by reasonable and good faith compliance\nwith this section.\n
