§ 529. Consolidated lien index. 1. In counties having a population of\nless than five hundred thousand, the county clerk may install and\nmaintain a single consolidated index, in lieu of all other indices\nrequired by law, for the purpose of indexing alphabetically all liens or\nencumbrances affecting real property recorded or filed in his office,\nexcept mortgages, lis pendens and judgments.\n 2. A county clerk may adopt a new indexing system utilizing\nelectro-mechanical, electronic or any other method he deems suitable for\nmaintaining the indexes.\n
