Except as otherwise provided by law, the secretary shall appoint, with the approval of the governor, "directors" of divisions established within the department. The directors so appointed are exempt from the Personnel Act [Chapter 10, Article 9 NMSA 1978]. History: Laws 2004, ch. 25, § 8. Effective dates. — Laws 2004, ch. 25 contained no effective date provision, but, pursuant to N.M. Const., art. IV, § 23, was effective May 19, 2004, 90 days after adjournment of the legislature.
