The purpose of the Public Education Department Act is to establish a single, unified department to administer laws and exercise functions formerly administered and exercised by the state board of education and the state department of public education. History: Laws 2004, ch. 27, § 2. Effective dates. — Laws 2004, ch. 27 contained no effective date provision, but, pursuant to N.M. Const., art. IV, § 23, was effective May 19, 2004, 90 days after adjournment of the legislature.
