The secretary may appoint, with the approval of the governor, "directors" of the divisions that are established within the department. Directors are exempt from the Personnel Act [Chapter 10, Article 9 NMSA 1978]. History: Laws 2004, ch. 19, § 9. Effective dates. — Laws 2004, ch. 19 contained no effective date provision, but, pursuant to N.M. Const., art. IV, § 23, was effective May 19, 2004, 90 days after adjournment of the legislature.
