Each applicant for licensure shall apply to the department. Except as otherwise provided in the Interior Designers Act, each applicant shall take and pass the national council for interior design qualification examination or another nationally recognized examination approved by the department and have an active certification from the national council for interior design qualification or another nationally recognized certification. The 2023 amendment, effective July 1, 2023, provided that applicants for licensure apply to the department of regulation and licensing, and required applicants to take and pass the national council for interior design qualification or other nationally recognized examination approved by the department and to have a nationally recognized certification; in the former introductory clause, after "shall apply to the", deleted "board" and added "department"; deleted "a nationally standardized examination. The board may adopt substantially all or part of the examination and grading procedures of the national council for interior design qualifications. Prior to examination, the applicant shall provide substantial evidence to the board that the applicant"; added "the national council for interior design qualification examination or another nationally recognized examination approved by the department and have an active certification from the national council for interior design qualification or another nationally recognized certification"; and deleted former Subsections A through E.
