44:4-42. Assistant directors for municipalities Where a county contains a city of the first or second class, the county welfare board of such county shall appoint an assistant director of welfare for each such city to administer the distribution of relief under the direction of the director of welfare and the supervision of the county welfare board in such territory as the county welfare board may prescribe; and to administer relief to such other municipalities as the county welfare board may deem necessary such board may appoint assistants on the staff of the director of welfare, preference of appointment to be given to experienced and fully qualified overseers of the poor.
