30:8-13.2. Counties of first class over 800,000; compensation of employees From and after January first, one thousand nine hundred and forty-nine, in counties of the first class having a population exceeding eight hundred thousand inhabitants, the compensation of guards, keepers, industrial officers and guard orderlies employed in the jails, houses of detention and penitentiaries, shall be fixed by the board of chosen freeholders.
