30:4A-5. Commitment of defendant for examination Every judge, before imposing sentence upon a defendant, may order an examination of the mental and physical condition of such defendant and may order his commitment for such purpose to the diagnostic center and shall arrange for the entry of an appropriate order of commitment on forms to be prescribed by the Department of Institutions and Agencies, which shall accompany the defendant to the diagnostic center.
