2A:36-3. Liability for escape of person committed under body execution If a sheriff or other officer in authority permits or allows any person committed to go out of jail or other place of detention or be at large by bail or otherwise, except as authorized by law, without the consent of the execution creditor, he shall be liable to the execution creditor for the amount required to be paid by said execution to satisfy the same and for which such person has been committed, recoverable by the execution creditor from the sheriff or other officer, with costs.
