26:6-39. Bodies in receiving vaults No unembalmed dead body shall be permitted to remain longer than 48 hours in a receiving vault in this State, the depth of which is less than 5 feet below the natural surface of the ground. This section shall not apply to properly constructed receiving vaults which prevent the escape of noxious and unhealthy gases.
