I. After the filing of a petition to adopt a minor, the court shall fix a time and place for hearing the petition. Notice shall be given by the court to the petitioners, all guardians of the child, the person having legal custody of the child, and the guardian ad litem of any party. Notice shall be given by regular mail. II. After the filing of a petition to adopt an adult, the court, by order, shall direct that a copy of the petition and a notice of the time and place of the hearing be given to any person whose assent is required but who has not assented as provided in RSA 170-B:3. The court may order an appropriate assessment to assist it in determining whether the adoption is in the best interest of the persons involved.
