In this subdivision: I. "Active member" means a member of a federally-recognized unit of the New Hampshire national guard who meets the minimum requirements for satisfactory membership as defined in Department of the Army and Department of the Air Force regulations. II. "Degree-enhancing curriculum" means a series of courses programmed to culminate in a specific degree when successfully completed. III. "Educational assistance" means the waiver of the tuition cost of a course at a state-supported postsecondary institution. IV. "New Hampshire national guard" means federally-recognized units of the New Hampshire national guard. V. "Tuition" means the total semester, quarter, or classroom hour cost of instruction to the student as established by the university system board of trustees or the board of trustees of the community college system of New Hampshire. VI. "Spouse" means a person legally married to a member of the New Hampshire national guard, regardless of gender or state of residence, as recorded in the defense enrollment eligibility reporting system of the United States Department of Defense.
