1. A person may not be tried or adjudged to punishment under this Code while incompetent. 2. For the purposes of this section, a person is incompetent when presently suffering from a mental disease or defect rendering the person unable to understand the nature of the proceedings against that person or to conduct or cooperate intelligently in the defense of the case.
