Certification required for certain employees; requirements for valid certification

1. If a certification in integrated pest
management that meets the requirements of subsection 2 is available at no
additional cost to a school district, the board of trustees of each school
district must ensure that at least 10 percent of the employees of the school
district who provide custodial or maintenance services hold such a
certification.
2. A certification in integrated pest
management is valid for the purposes of subsection 1 if the certification was
issued by a nonprofit organization that:
(a) Is recognized nationally or internationally;
(b) Has at least 15 years of experience providing
education and training to school employees concerning management of pests in
structures and landscape;
(c) Displays ongoing involvement in the
development of integrated pest management strategies;
(d) Requires a majority of its officers and board
of directors to hold an advanced degree in a field related to pest management
and a certification or other credential in integrated pest management; and
(e) Provides training that is required for the
certification in a manner that is accessible in-person or remotely.
