1. Except as provided in subsection 2, no member of the board may be interested, directly or indirectly, in any property purchased for the use of the district, or in any purchase or sale of property belonging to the district, or in any contract made by the district for the acquisition of any project or improvement by the district. 2. The board may purchase supplies or contract for services for the district from one of its members, when not to do so would be a great inconvenience, but the member from whom the supplies are to be bought or with whom the contract for services is to be made shall not vote upon the allowance of the purchase or contract. If the purchase is made or contract let by competitive bidding, the bid of a member of the board may be accepted only if the member is the lowest responsible bidder. 3. A member of the board who violates the provisions of subsection 1 is guilty of a gross misdemeanor and shall be further punished as provided in NRS 197.230 .
