Nevada Code § 269.010

Automatic application to disincorporated cities or towns, and towns formed by board of county commissioners; petition required in certain towns or cities

1. In the case of any disincorporated town
or city, or any town formed by the board of county commissioners, all the
provisions of this chapter immediately apply thereto.
2. Except as otherwise provided in
subsection 1, in a county whose population is less than 700,000 which has not
adopted the Unincorporated Town Government Law, none of the powers or
jurisdiction in this chapter authorized or required may be exercised in any
town or city until there has been filed in the office of the county clerk a
written petition for the application of the provisions of this chapter to the
town or city, signed by a majority of the actual residents thereof,
representing at least three-fifths of its taxable property. When a petition is
filed, the genuineness of its signatures and the qualification of its
subscribers must be established by the affidavits of reliable taxpayers of the
town or city filed with the petition.
3. Except as otherwise provided in NRS 269.016 to 269.022 , inclusive, the boards of county
commissioners constitute the governing body of all unincorporated towns within
their respective counties.
