1. At the pretrial hearing and in further proceedings, any party may be represented by counsel. If a party is financially unable to obtain counsel, the court may appoint counsel to represent that party with respect to the determination of the existence or nonexistence of the parent and child relationship and the duty of support, including without limitation the expenses of the mothers pregnancy and confinement, medical expenses for the birth of the child and support of the child from birth until trial. 2. If a party is financially unable to pay the cost of a transcript, the court shall furnish on request a transcript for purposes of appeal.
