33-7-117 . Scope -- provisions applicable. (1) Except as provided in subsection (2), societies are governed by this chapter and are exempt from all other provisions of the insurance laws of this state, not only in governmental relations with the state but for every other purpose. The provisions of a law enacted after January 1, 1992, do not apply to fraternal benefit societies unless expressly made applicable by the provisions of the law. (2) In addition to the provisions of this chapter, the provisions of chapter 1, parts 1 through 4 and 7; 33-2-104 ; 33-2-107 ; 33-2-112 ; chapter 2, parts 13 and 19; 33-3-308 ; 33-3-701 through 33-3-704 ; 33-15-502 ; and chapters 17, 18, 20, and 22 apply to fraternal benefit societies to the extent applicable and to the extent not in conflict with the provisions of this chapter and the reasonable implications of this chapter.
