27-1-222 . Exemplary damages for inhumane injuries to animals. (1) For wrongful injuries to animals, being subjects of property, committed willfully or by gross negligence in disregard of humanity, exemplary damages may be given. (2) As used in this section, "animals" includes ostriches, rheas, and emus.
