Missouri Code § 65.650

Township zoning, submitted to the voters, when — township plan, formulated.

The township board of any township in a county which has not voted to adopt countywide planning or zoning pursuant to the provisions of sections 64.510 to 64.695 , or sections 64.800 to 64.905 , may, on its own motion, and shall, upon a petition signed by a number of qualified voters in the county equal to five percent of the total vote for governor in such township at the most recent general election at which a governor was elected, submit to a vote of the voters of the township a proposition adopting township planning and zoning under the provisions of sections 65.650 to 65.700 . The township planning and zoning proposal shall provide for the preparation, adoption, amendment, extension and carrying out of a township plan for all areas of the township outside the corporate limits of any city, town or village which has adopted a city plan in accordance with the laws of the state. Upon the adoption of the township plan there is created in that township a township planning commission as provided in sections 65.650 to 65.700 .
