1. With the approval of the director, the head of any mental health or intellectual disability facility or regional center operated by the department may establish a vocational activity center for its patients or residents. 2. Each facility or regional center shall keep revenues received from the activity center in a separate account. The acquisition costs to obtain materials to produce any goods sold and other expenses shall be paid from this account. A minimum amount of money necessary to meet cash flow needs and current operating expenses may be maintained in this account. The remaining funds from sales of the activity center shall be deposited monthly in the state treasury to the credit of the general revenue fund. 3. This section shall not be construed to authorize any facility or regional center to establish an activity center on the grounds for patients or residents who could participate in a sheltered workshop, as defined and authorized in sections 178.900 to 178.960 , off the grounds of the facility or regional center.
