The county auditor in counties of the first class not having a charter form of government and in counties of the second class may also employ the office and clerical assistants, with the approval of the county commission, that are deemed necessary for the proper and efficient operation of his office, at the salaries fixed by the county auditor, with the approval of the county commission.
