If it shall appear to the commissioners, or a majority of them, that such assignment of dower, if any, and partition of the premises cannot be made without great prejudice to the owners, they shall make report of such facts to the court, in writing; or if the judgment of the court can be executed only as to a part of such premises, they shall make division of such part, and report the same to the court, together with the residue which, in their opinion, is not susceptible of division.
