1. As used in this section, "distance dental hygienist education program" shall mean a training program for dental hygienists accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association that allows didactic and clinical course work to be completed offsite of the educational institution, including a dental facility regulated under this chapter, if such offsite location is a part of an accredited dental hygiene program through the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association as an extended campus facility. 2. The department of economic development shall contract with an institution of higher education, which meets the standards established by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association, to establish a distance dental hygienist education program.
