(1) In addition to such powers and duties as may be otherwise provided by law, the district attorney of each circuit court district in the state is hereby authorized, in his discretion, and in accordance with the provisions of Sections 97-19-73 through 97-19-79 , to assist complainants in the recovery and distribution of restitution from persons accused of violating Section 97-19-55 , Mississippi Code of 1972, relating to the issuance of bad checks, whether conviction for such violation may constitute a misdemeanor or a felony. (2) Sections 97-19-73 through 97-19-79 shall not be construed as amending or repealing the provisions of Sections 97-19-55 through 97-19-69 , Mississippi Code of 1972, nor the provisions of any other law prohibiting and prescribing penalties for similar violations, but shall be supplementary and in addition thereto.
