Upon granting a family leave to a member, an employing unit must certify the leave to the association on a form specified by the executive director. Notwithstanding any laws to the contrary, a member who is granted a family leave under United States Code, title 42, section 12631, may receive allowable service credit for the leave by making payment under section 354.72 . The member shall return to public service after the leave period under United States Code, title 42, section 12631, to receive allowable service for a subsequent authorized family leave.
