Except as provided in sections 3C.12, subdivision 2 , and 5.08 and chapter 16B, when any department, agency, or official of the state issues for public distribution any book, document, journal, map, pamphlet, or report copies thereof shall be delivered immediately as follows: Four copies to the Minnesota Historical Society; One copy to the general library of the University of Minnesota, and may, upon request of the librarian, deliver additional copies; Two copies to the state library, and such additional copies as the state librarian deems necessary for exchange with other libraries, with other states, with the United States, and with governments of foreign countries; One copy to the public library of any city of the first class; One copy to the library of each state university as defined in chapter 136.
