All applicants for licensure as a physical therapist must take and pass the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) or an alternate national examination determined by the board to be equivalent. For purposes of this section, passing scores are defined in subdivisions 2 and 3. The passing score for qualifying examinations taken prior to July 1, 1995, is one standard deviation below the mean of all persons taking the examination. The passing score for qualifying examinations taken after July 1, 1995, shall be based on objective, numerical standards established by the administering testing agency.
