Sec. 62a. (1) A local lockup advisory board is created within the bureau of prisons. The board shall consist of 7 members appointed for a period of 4 years. The director of each of the following shall appoint 1 member: (a) The department of state police. (b) The Michigan association of chiefs of police. (c) The Michigan municipal league. (d) The Michigan townships association. (e) The Michigan judges' association. (f) The Michigan district judges' association. (g) The Michigan sheriffs' association. (2) The members appointed under subsection (1) shall serve without compensation but shall be entitled to actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of official duties. (3) The first meeting of the advisory board shall be convened within 60 days after the effective date of this section, at which time the members appointed under subsection (1) shall elect a chairperson. A quorum shall consist of 4 members. (4) The local lockup advisory board shall develop and promote a model policy for use in the administration of local lockups, holding cells, and holding centers. The model policy shall be developed within 6 months after the date of the first meeting. The advisory board shall convene annually to review the model policy. History: Add. 1984, Act 102, Imd. Eff.
