Sec. 37. (1) Witnesses subpoenaed pursuant to this act shall be allowed fees at the rate fixed by law. The fees and expenses of proceedings involving disputed determinations, decisions, or notices of assessments before an administrative law judge or the Michigan compensation appellate commission shall be considered a part of the expense of administering this act. (2) If an interested party to a hearing formally requests an administrative law judge or the Michigan compensation appellate commission to obtain a subpoena for witnesses whose evidence it considers necessary, an administrative law judge or the Michigan compensation appellate commission shall promptly issue the subpoena as provided in this act, unless the request is determined to be unreasonable.
