Sec. 109. (1) Until changed by board resolution, every community college district shall have the legal name of "Community College District of ..........................." (the name of the county or counties when organized under chapter 1, the names of the component school districts when organized under chapter 2, or the name of the intermediate school district or districts when the community college district is organized under chapter 3). (2) The board of any community college district by resolution may adopt a distinctive name for the community college district, which name, after being approved by the state board of education, shall be the legal name of the district for all purposes. The board in like manner may change the name of the district. The adoption of a distinctive name or the change in name of any district shall have no effect upon existing obligations incurred in the former name of the district or upon the district ownership of any real or personal property.
