Sec. 1166b. (1) Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, the board of a school district or board of directors of a public school academy is encouraged to ensure that the school district's or public school academy's social studies curriculum for grades 9 to 12 includes a program of instruction in free enterprise and entrepreneurship. (2) Subsection (1) does not preclude a school district or public school academy from including instruction described in subsection (1) in other subject areas or grade levels. (3) A program of instruction under this section must be project-based and may provide instruction on any of the following subjects: (a) Business vocabulary, including, at least, entrepreneurship, free enterprise, business finance, goods and services, and innovation. (b) Entrepreneurs from this state and around the world. (c) Action activities, including, at least, setting short-term and long-term goals. (d) Business basics, including, at least, taxes for businesses and corporations, essential skills for business owners, and product- and service-based business ideas. (e) Creating a student project-based business plan. (4) As used in this section, "entrepreneur" means an individual who organizes and operates a business or businesses and takes on greater than normal financial risk to do so.
