Sec. 43a. (1) Except as provided in subsection (2), an animal being euthanized in this state shall be humanely euthanized in a manner outlined as acceptable or acceptable with conditions under the American Veterinary Medical Association's Guidelines on Euthanasia and all subsequent amendments to that publication, or as approved by the director. (2) Subsection (1) does not apply to an animal that is being slaughtered for human consumption or pet food. (3) The director may designate an appropriate euthanasia or depopulation procedure in an extraordinary emergency. History: Add. 2019, Act 132, Eff.
