Sec. 5. The farm produce insurance authority is created as a public body corporate and politic. The authority is within, but not a part of, the department. The authority shall exercise its prescribed statutory powers, duties, and functions independently of the director, the department, and the commission of agriculture. The budgeting, procurement, and related functions of the authority shall be performed under the direction and supervision of the board. History: 2003, Act 198, Imd. Eff. Nov. 10, 2003
