(a) The purpose of this title is to assist adults by: (1) Obtaining support for the adult in making, communicating, or effectuating decisions that correspond to the will, preferences, and choices of the adult; and (2) Preventing the need for the appointment of a substitute decision maker for the adult, including a guardian of the person or property. (b) This title shall be liberally construed and applied to promote its underlying purposes and policies.
