(a) The sheriff and deputy sheriffs of a county shall: (1) Receive the annual salaries provided by this part for performing the duties required of them by the Constitution and the laws of this State; and (2) Be reimbursed for expenses as provided by law. (b) (1) A deputy sheriff shall perform the duties incidental to the office as are assigned by the sheriff. (2) All deputy sheriffs' salaries shall be paid at least once each month. (c) The government of each county shall: (1) Furnish an office for the sheriff; (2) Pay the necessary expenses for telephones, stationery, and other purposes; and (3) Unless otherwise provided by law, provide for: (i) The necessary traveling expenses of the sheriff for conveying prisoners to any penal institution in the State; and (ii) Other necessary traveling expenses.
