Service credit for prior service

1. Determination. Service credit for prior service is determined as follows.
A. If a member can provide the board with satisfactory evidence that the member performed any
work as a state employee before July 1, 1942 or as a teacher before July 1, 1947, the member must
be granted one year of service credit for each year in which any work was performed, except that:
(1) For the first year of service under this paragraph, service credit may be earned only from
the date of beginning work to the end of the year;
(2) During the calendar year 1942, the maximum amount of prior service credit that may be
earned for work as a state employee is 1/2 year; and
(3) Prior service credit for work as a state employee must be calculated on the basis of calendar
years and for work as a teacher on the basis of school years. [RR 2023, c. 2, Pt. B, §103

B. Service credit for prior service shall be granted for work as a teacher to a member, if the member
pays into the Members' Contribution Fund 5% of the salary received during that service. For each
year of that service, the payments shall be not less than $20 nor more than $100. [PL 1985, c.

2. Verification of prior service. Upon verification of the length of prior service rendered, the
board shall grant service credit for that service.
