Retirement benefits to spouses extended

A surviving spouse must be paid 1/2 of the amount that any member of the State Police, including
the Chief of the State Police, is receiving either as a pension or a disability retirement allowance under
this chapter, and those payments must continue for the remainder of the spouse's lifetime or until the
spouse remarries. Payments to the member cease as of the day of the member's death and begin to the
member's surviving spouse on the following day. [RR 2023, c. 1, Pt. C, §46 (COR).]
This section applies to a surviving spouse of any member of the State Police who at the time of that
member's death had been eligible to receive or was receiving a pension or a disability retirement
allowance under this chapter. Payments to those who were surviving spouses on September 3, 1965
must be based upon the amount of pension or disability retirement that the member would have been
entitled to receive as of September 3, 1965 under this chapter. [RR 2023, c. 1, Pt. C, §46 (COR).]
