Maine Code § 17-A-1801

Definitions

As used in this subchapter, unless the context otherwise indicates, the following terms have the
following meanings. [PL 2019, c. 113, Pt. A, §2 (NEW).]
1. Dating partner. "Dating partner" has the same meaning as in Title 19-A, section 4102,
subsection 4.

2. Family or household member. "Family or household member" has the same meaning as in
Title 19-A, section 4102, subsection 6, paragraphs A to E.

3. Victim. "Victim" means:
A. A person who is the victim of a crime; [PL 2019, c. 113, Pt. A, §2 (NEW).]
B. The immediate family of a victim of a crime if:
(1) The underlying crime is one of domestic violence or sexual assault or one in which the
family suffered serious physical trauma or serious financial loss; or
(2) Due to death, age, physical or mental disease, disorder or defect, the victim is unable to
participate as allowed by law; or [PL 2019, c. 113, Pt. A, §2 (NEW).]
C. A person who has obtained under Title 19-A, former section 4007 or Title 19-A, section 4110
an active protection order or approved consent agreement against the defendant. [PL 2021, c.
