Maine Code § 14-1507

Damages reduced by counterclaim, full costs

When a counterclaim is filed and the plaintiff recovers not exceeding $20, he is entitled to full costs
if the jury certify in their verdict that the damages were reduced to that sum by reason of the amount
allowed on the counterclaim.
