Short title; purpose; definitions

A. This Chapter shall be known and may be referred to as the "Louisiana Mediation Act". B. The purpose of this Chapter is to provide encouragement and support for the use of mediation to promote settlement of legal disputes. C. For purposes of this Chapter: (1) "ADR Section" means the Louisiana State Bar Association, Alternative Dispute Resolution Section. (2) "Approved register" means the register of qualified mediators prepared and maintained by the ADR Section. (3) "Cost of mediation" includes the mediator's fee, administrative fees, and expenses. (4) "Mediation" is a procedure in which a mediator facilitates communication between the parties concerning the matters in dispute and explores possible solutions to promote reconciliation, understanding, and settlement. (5) "MCLE Committee" means the Louisiana State Bar Association, Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Committee.
