Major highway construction and maintenance; notification of elected officials

A. For purposes of this Section, "major highway construction and maintenance project" shall mean a state highway construction or maintenance project that is expected to interrupt traffic flow on a state highway with average daily traffic in excess of ten thousand vehicles per day and that requires more than forty-eight hours to complete. B. The department shall develop a policy for notifying sheriffs, parish presidents, fire chiefs, and state legislators a minimum of ten days prior to major highway construction and maintenance projects being performed in their respective areas. Such policy shall include but not be limited to the following provisions: (1) A description of the project. (2) The location of the highway construction or maintenance work to be performed. (3) The starting and completion date of the highway construction or maintenance project. (4) Information for motorists of an alternate traffic route while highway or maintenance work is being performed.
