The Sergeant at Arms of the House of Representatives shall be appointed by the Speaker. He shall be appointed every four years at the time the Speaker is elected and his appointment shall be the next order of business following election of the Speaker Pro Tempore. He shall serve at the pleasure of the Speaker. Vacancies in the office of Sergeant at Arms shall be filled by appointment by the Speaker. Mason's Manual: Sec. 585(1)
