(1) Any city may acquire, maintain and operate an artificial gas system, together with extensions and necessary appurtenances thereto within or w ithout the limits of the city. (2) If any such artificial gas system is acquired from a company having a franchise, such system may be acquired under the provisions of the Eminent Domain Act of Kentucky, except as otherwise provided in KRS 96.543 to 96.546 and 96.600.
